Boyd, Joseph Willard (McCafferty)
Sep 1, 2017Boyd, Joseph Willard (McCafferty) Nov 29, 1945 - Aug 18, 2017 Third child of Willard C. Boyd and Marie (Hourigan). His mother passed away during his birth, and his dad, unable to care for a baby, asked Marie's sister and brother-in-law, William and Agnes McCafferty, if they would let the baby live with them. There was no hesitation; they welcomed Joe and he immediately had six new siblings. He referred to them as Mom and Dad and sisters and brother. In addition to his mother, Joe was preceded in death by his father, Willard; brother, William Tom Boyd; sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary (Boyd) and Dick Nolan; brothers-in-law, Bill DuVall, Steve Burns, Jim Gibb, Tom Nastase, and Jack Zimmerman; "Mom and Dad" Agnes and Bill McCafferty; father-in-law, Stephen D. Costello. Joe grew up in Omaha, attending Holy Angels Grade School and Holy Name High School. He worked 25 years for UPRR—4 years in Omaha as an apprentice, and 21years in North Platte, NE as a carman. He continued to live in North Platte until 2007 when he and Linda came back to Omaha. Joe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda (Costello); sons: Jeffrey Boyd (Denise), Rev. Benjamin Boyd, and Kevin Boyd (Alexandra); daughter, Jodi DeBoer (Jay); McCaffertys: sisters, Winnie Sage (Bill), Peggy Hoskins (Martin), Gerrie Zimmerman, Mary Nastase, and Kathy Griffith (Dick); brother, William J McCafferty (Mary); 13 grandchildren: Fiona, Nicholas and Sophie Boyd, Paul, Adam, Isaac, Jane, Lucy and Gregory DeBoer, Andrew, Sean, Ashley and Bailey Boyd; many nieces and nephews; lifelong friend, Larry Huston. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 24th from 5pm to 7pm at Christ the King Catholic Church, 654 So. 86th St., followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Friday, August 25th at 10am at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment, Calvary Cemetery.
